BASIC FACTS ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION

HISTORY

The Association was formally founded in 2009, July 3. Although many former students have been assisting the college in individual capacity, an organized front was desired for better coordination and efficiency, and thus the official alumni association. Since then, as a cohesive collective we have been able to make our efforts more visible and substantial through the cheerful spirit of giving amongst the alumni for the cause of our alma mater. The association campaigns for and channel such generosity to the college.

THE BIG TRIBE!

Kohima Science College has created a robust alumni base during over half a century of its existence. The body of its alumni comprises people from diverse backgrounds and places, religious and political persuasions, aspirations and professions  but come to its alma mater "all in unity' for "the truth we seek" while being guided by a common motto: Omnia Vincit Labor. Being large in number and broad in outlook and honouring the geographical identity of its alma mater, it calls itself THE BIG TRIBE!

SUPPORT

To the extent that our capabilities and time allow, the association endeavours to be useful to the college. Besides setting up immovable assets, the members also assist the college during major events of the college. Some projects had been completed while others are ongoing.

ALUMNI PROJECTS

PROJECT ALPHA I

Launched by Mr Zhiebu Kire, IPS, DGP (Rtd.), Nagaland, the College LAN of 100 Mbps and Broadband connectivity were operationalized in 2010. The completion of the project saw the addition of 10 PCs to the college library reading room for use by students. The Project Alpha I culminated with its official commissioning in 2011, 11th June by Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu, the then Honourable Minister of Higher Education and Urban Development.

At the time, this new facilty was a novelty in this part of the country. While serving the much needed learning resource for students and faculty, it also set a bench-mark for other colleges in the state to follow while charting a new and higher path for growth in learning infrastructure for the college.

PROJECT ALPHA II

Girl-student number has grown in leaps and bounds during the last 20 years to the extent that today, girls constitute 60 % of the total enrolment. This growing number has mounted pressure on the college to provide adequate accomodation. Recently, the old Leone Hostel has been upgraded in terms of in-take capacity by addition of a new building that was funded by the UGC. Nonetheless, there is still a yawning gap betweeen supply and demand of hostel seats.

In the backdrop of this reality, the association took upon itself to fund the construction of a 50-bedded girls hostel at an estimated cost of Rs. One crore. Following on the heels of completion of Project Alpha-I, Project Alpha-II was officially launched by Dr. Shurozelie Liezietsu, the then Honourable Minister of Higher Education and Urban Development.

Finishing touches and procurement of furnitures remain to be done. Thus, contribution is still solicited.
